LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR VERNDALE SENIORS

BizWorks
The BizWorks Scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in business, or any business related field (Human Resources, Public Affairs, Marketing, Sales, Management, etc.). Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete an essay. Applications are due March 15, 2020.

Bob Schultz Memorial Math Scholarship 
The Family of Bob Schultz wishes to encourage seniors graduating from Verndale High School to pursue educational training at the post-secondary level. The graduating senior must be planning to continue his/her education at a college, university, community college or technical college. Preference will be given to a student in the math department. The award amount will be 250.00. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Verndale
The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Verndale awards students planning to attend a post-secondary institution that have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students must complete a scholarship resume and required essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Donna Waldahl Educational Scholarship
The Donna Waldahl Educational Scholarship gives preference to students pursuing a career in education. The award is $750 and students must complete a scholarship resume and essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020. 

Elmer Goche VFW Post 3922
The Elmer Goche VFW Post 3922 awards one $300 scholarship to a student planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Students must complete a scholarship resume and two essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Lakewood Health System
Lakewood Health System offers scholarships to area students interested in pursuing a career in health related fields. More information can be found in the link below. Applications are due April 1, 2020 and can be found in the application documents folder.

Larry “Cork” & Ruth Anderson Scholarship
Larry “Cork” & Ruth Anderson Scholarship is in memory and honor of Cork and Ruth and gives back to the community members. The scholarship is for students pursuing a skill based career and attending a 1-2 year technical or community college. Two $750 scholarships are available. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Les Horsager Memorial Scholarship
Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded for the 2018, 2019, and 2020 school years. Applicants must be planning to continue their education at a college, university, community or technical college. Preference will be give to the highest ranking male and female student. No application needed.

Masonic Lodge Scholarship
The Masonic Lodge Scholarship awards a onetime $1,000 scholarship to a student displaying financial need. Other criteria include community service and involvement and future aspirations. Students must complete a scholarship resume and essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Madhatters Fine Arts Award 
The Madhatters Fine Arts Award is for students planning to be active in the arts after graduating from high school. Three $500 scholarships are awarded to area students. Applicants must have been in extra-curricular activities in school and/or have performed in the fine arts within their church, community, or other organizations. Applications are due April 1, 2020.

Park Rapids Disabled American Veterans Chapter 38
The Park Rapids Disabled American Veterans Chapter 38 and its Auxiliary are awarding seven $1,000 scholarships to area students that are the son/daughter, brother/sister, grandson/granddaughter, or great grandson/granddaughter of a veteran. Applicants must submit a teacher or counselor recommendation, transcript, and essay question. Applications are due April 4, 2020. More information is available in the scholarships document folder.

Purple Heart Scholarship Chapter 745
The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial support to Purple Heart recipeients and their families. Students must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution and preference will be gien to the student who has a family member who is a Purple Heart recipient. To apply students must complete the scholarship resume, required essays and have a member who has served or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The winner receives a one time $500 scholarship. Applications are due February 28, 2020.

Ringnecks Forevermore
The local Ringnecks Forevermore organization sponsors a $200 scholarship to a student interested in pursuing a degree in agriculture, forestry, wildlife, conservation, or a related field. Students must complete a scholarship resume and essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Todd County Corn & Soybean Scholarship
The Todd County Corn and Soybean Growers Association, an affiliate of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association would like to announce an Agriculture Scholarship Program.  The association will award up to two $1,000 scholarships to qualifying students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture.  The program is sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association.  The applications are due April 1, 2019.

Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative
The Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative will award up to six $1,000 scholarships to area graduating seniors. Eligible students must be the son/daughter of a Todd-Wadena member, have a 2.0 GPA or better, been involved in extra curriculuar activities and be starting college during the next school year. Applications are due February 28, 2020.

Tri-County Health Care
Tri-County Health Care offers scholarships to area students interested in pursuing a career in a health related fields. Applications are due April 1, 2020

Verndale Education Association
The Verndale Education Association awards up to two $400 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in education. Students must complete a scholarship resume and essay questions. Applications are due March 13, 2020.

Verndale Lions Club
The Verndale Lions Club awards scholarships to students planning to attend a post-secondary institution. The minimum amount is $500. Students must complete a scholarship resume and essay questions. Applications are due February 28, 2020.

West Central Telephone Association
West Central Telephone Association awards eight $1,000 scholarships to area WCTA members. Students must have maintained a “C” average, participated in school activities, and completed service within the community. Applications are due April 3, 2020.

 

JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Minnesota Association of Townships Scholarship Program
The Minnesota Association of Township (MAT) awards up to six $1,000 scholarships to high school juniors. All juniors are welcome to apply. Applications are due May 1, 2019. Applications and more information can be found in the related documents.

 

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Horatio Alger Association
Horatio Alger Association awards scholarships and grants annually ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to students who demonstrate financial need. The Horatio Alger program seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as critical financial need. The deadline is October 25, 2019 for four-year undergraduate scholarships. Career & Technical scholarships open February 2020.

Coca Cola Scholar Foundation
The Coca Cola Scholars Foundation offers fifty four-year scholarships of $20,000 each and two hundred four-year scholarships of $4,000 each to graduating seniors in the U.S. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The deadline is October 31, 2019.

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarships are based on financial need as well as the applicant’s participation in school and community activities. The deadline is November 15, 2019.

Hagan Scholarship Foundation
The Hagan Scholarship Foundation is a needs based merit scholarship for rural students. Students must have a 3.75 GPA, a 24 or higher on the ACT, must be attending a four year college or university in the fall, much have 240 hours of work in the twelve months prior to the start of each academic year of college. Students must complete the FAFSA. The deadline is November 15, 2019.

Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship
The Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship offers several scholarship opportunities for high school seniors.

AXA Achievement Scholarship
AXA Achievement Scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000 are available to seniors who are determined to succeed and have demonstrated achievement at a job or extra-curricular activities. The application deadline is December 15, 2019.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest 
This scholarship is open to all high school students. Applicants must write an essay on the political courage of an elected United States official. The deadline to apply is January 17, 2020.

Elks Legacy Award Scholarships
Any high school senior whose parent or grandparent is a member of an Elks Lodge is eligible to apply for a $4,000 scholarship.

LOCAL/STATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Minnesota FarmHouse Fraternity Incoming Freshman Scholarship
Scholarships are available for male high school seniors or transfer students who are enrolling at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities this coming Fall. There will be a total of $3,000 in scholarships awarded. They will range from $250 to $1,000 and are open to all majors. The criteria that scholarships are awarded on include the student’s: Academic Achievement, Leadership Experience, Athletic Involvement and Career Motivation.

Minnesota Athletes in Sports Medicine Scholarship
Sports & Orthopedic Specialists and Allina Health are proud to present the 11th annual Minnesota Athlete in Sports Medicine Scholarship. Two $2,500.00 scholarships are available and will be awarded to one male and one female graduating high school student athlete who intend to pursue a professional career in sports medicine.

Lakes Area Manufacturing Alliance (LAMA) Scholarship
LAMA is awarding $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a certificate or degree in manufacturing careers. To be eligible students must be graduating in the class of 2019, have a 2.5 GPA, and reside in the Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd or Wadena counties. Applications are due April 1, 2019. Minnesota Power Community Involvement Scholarship
Applicants are evaluated on the basis of volunteer activities and community involvement. The application deadline is January 15.

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation Scholarships
There are nine specific scholarships within the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation Scholarships. These are open to students in Cass, Hubbard, Wadena, Todd, Morrison, Crow Wing, & Pine Countys. Please utilize their "Find a Scholarship" tool to see if you qualify for any scholarships.

Minnesota Telecom Alliance Foundation Scholarship
Applicants must be a Minnesota resident and receive at least one service from a telephone company that is a member of the Minnesota Telecom Alliance. Applicants must submit ACT/SAT scores, high school transcript, an essay, and two appraisal forms (counselor/advisor/administrator and a teacher of their choosing). Minnesota School Counselors Association
Minnesota School Counselors Association awards ten $1,000 scholarships, one finalist per each of the ten MSCA divisions to individuals pursing post-secondary education of their choosing. Applicants must be able to articulate how a licensed school counselor impacted their life.

 2020 MBA Scholarships Program
Apply by April 15, 2019, to be eligible to win a $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be a child or grandchild of a public or school district employee or elected official in Minnesota. Applications available November 1, 2019.

Wadena Soil & Water Conservation District
A $250 scholarship is awarded to a student that lives in Wadena County and is pursuing a degree in a Natural Resource or Agricultural related field.

The Minnesota Masonic Charities offers six different scholarship opportunities for eligible students.

Reunion Student Loan Finance/iHELP Student Loan gives away three- $1,000 scholarships and an iPad in Minnesota. These scholarships are awarded to high school seniors attending a college, university or technical institute for the 2019/2020 academic year. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2019.
